About This Tool
A Unix timestamp (also known as Epoch time or POSIX time) represents the number of seconds that have elapsed since January 1, 1970 at 00:00:00 UTC. This tool helps you convert between timestamps and human-readable dates.
Common Use Cases
  • Converting timestamps in logs and databases
  • Debugging time-related issues in applications
  • Calculating time differences
  • Working with APIs that use Unix timestamps
  • Scheduling and cron job configuration
Examples

Common timestamps:

  • 0 = Jan 1, 1970 00:00:00 UTC (Unix Epoch)
  • 1000000000 = Sep 9, 2001 01:46:40 UTC
  • 1704067200 = Jan 1, 2024 00:00:00 UTC
Notes & Limitations
  • Timestamps can be in seconds (10 digits) or milliseconds (13 digits)
  • The "Year 2038 problem" affects 32-bit systems storing timestamps
  • Always specify timezone when sharing human-readable dates
  • JavaScript uses milliseconds natively; divide by 1000 for seconds
